Frequently asked questions

Cost, process, materials, timing and care — everything we are asked most about microcement, Venetian plaster and limewash paint in Toronto.

Limewash Paint

How does limewash paint create its unique cloudy appearance?

Limewash is applied in fluid, criss-cross artisan brushstrokes. As the slaked lime dries and absorbs into the primer, differential moisture evaporation and crystal formation create soft, natural tonal variations and subtle chromatic movement unique to every room.

Is limewash paint safe and non-toxic for bedrooms and nurseries?

Absolutely. Our mineral limewash paints are 100% VOC-free, odorless, non-flammable, and completely free from synthetic solvents or petroleum derivatives. They are the healthiest choice for indoor air quality and naturally hypoallergenic.

Can limewash paint be touched up easily?

Yes. Because limewash is an open, breathable mineral coating, touch-ups blend naturally into the existing wall when applied with feathered cross-hatch strokes using reserved paint from the original batch.

Can limewash be applied over previously painted drywall?

Yes, with proper surface preparation. We apply an artisan mineral quartz primer that creates mechanical grip and uniform porosity, allowing the limewash to bond permanently to modern painted drywall.

Microcement

What makes microcement ideal for bathrooms and wet rooms?

Microcement forms a completely continuous, grout-free surface. When treated with our multi-tier polyurethane sealing system, it creates an impenetrable barrier against moisture, soap scum, and mold, making it exceptionally hygienic and effortless to clean.

How thick is microcement and can it be applied over existing tiles?

Microcement is applied at a nominal thickness of just 2 to 3 millimeters. Because of its polymer-modified adhesion, it can be applied directly over sound existing tiles, concrete, cement board, and reinforced drywall without altering door clearances or floor heights.

How durable is microcement against scratches and foot traffic?

Our high-performance microcement systems exceed standard concrete compressive strengths (approx. 35–40 MPa). Sealed with commercial-grade matte polyurethane, they resist high residential foot traffic, pet claws, and typical household spills with ease.

How do you maintain and clean microcement surfaces?

Routine cleaning requires only warm water and pH-neutral soap with a microfiber mop or cloth. Avoid harsh acidic, bleach, or abrasive cleaners. Periodic application of a protective wax or refresh sealer keeps the finish looking pristine for decades.

Venetian Plaster

What is the difference between authentic Venetian plaster and faux paint finishes?

Authentic Venetian plaster is formulated with genuine aged slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) and finely pulverized Carrara marble. As it cures, it undergoes a carbonation process that reverts back to solid limestone. Unlike flat paint or synthetic faux coatings, it develops natural stone translucency, cool-to-the-touch smoothness, and remarkable depth.

Can Venetian plaster be used in high-humidity areas?

Yes. Natural lime plaster is naturally alkaline (high pH), which inherently inhibits mold, mildew, and bacteria. With an organic Marseille olive-oil soap or natural beeswax finish, it performs exceptionally well on bathroom walls, powder rooms, and ceiling features.

What types of Venetian plaster finishes do you offer?

We artisan-craft a full spectrum of finishes: ultra-smooth mirror-polished Grassello di Calce, satin-honed Marmorino, tactile travertine/stone textures (Intonachino), and metallic-infused mica washes tailored to your interior palette.

How is Venetian plaster repaired if scratched?

Minor marks can often be buffed away with micro-fine steel wool and beeswax. Deeper gouges can be spot-repaired by blending fresh lime paste matched to the original formula and burnishing into the surrounding coat.
